Notre Dame Hymns

Notre Dame Our Mother

Notre Dame Our Mother
Tender, strong and true
Proudly in the heavens
Gleams the gold and blue
Glory's mantle cloaks thee
Golden is thy fame
And our hearts forever
Praise thee Notre Dame
And our hearts forever
Love thy Notre Dame

Notre Dame Hymn

I
We stand today for our Notre Dame
Loyal and true, we'll always remain
And as the years go passing by
We'll keep high our banner in the sky

II
We'll work for God and our Philippines
Proud of our flag and all that it means
We'll always love thy glorious name
For country and Notre Dame

III
Hail, hail to our Notre Dame
Open our hearts and praise be her name
And as the clouds go rolling by
We'll know that our smile can keep us high

IV
We'll fight our best to win over all
Trying to lead in big things or small
Win or lose we'll hold thy name
With honor to Notre Dame

St. Eugene de Mazenod Hymn

Refrain:
St. Eugene de Mazenod
Loving the most abandoned
You are sent to all the poor
Preaching the gospel evermore

I
Teach us to love Christ crucified
With fervent hearts for the Church He saved;
You see Christ persecuted
Among the poor neglected. (Ref)

II
From being a sinner you became
A missionary preaching in God's name
You served the poor dejected;
The poor so precious in God's eyes. (Ref)

III
Gather men who would be Oblates
For God's word to touch the desolate
Guided by Mary Immaculate
The world in God's love illuminates. (Ref)

Refrain II:
St. Eugene de Mazenod
Loving the most abandoned
You are sent to all the poor
Preaching the gospel evermore
Preaching the gospel evermore

About Us

As a Catholic institution, Notre Dame University Forms part of the saving mission of the Church, especially for education in faith (Gravissimum Educationis, 3). To fulfill this mission the University founds its whole educational enterprise in Christ and His Word (Congregation for Catholic Education, the Catholic School) and links itself with the magisterium, the guardian of the faith (Lumen Gentium, 25). With all its distinctive aims and means, the University offers itself in service to all, non-Christians included, acknowledging, preserving and promoting the spiritual and moral goods found among these persons as well as the values in their society and culture (Nostre Aetate, 2).

As  an institution of higher learning granted university status, Notre Dame University is called to be an “authentic center” for teaching, research and extension services in the area. While giving due importance to the pragmatic scope of these functions, Notre Dame University as a Catholic institution raises its gaze to higher goals, pointing out values and perspectives which render the vision of person complete because it offers a breath of university and spirituality (Baum, on Pope John Paul II’s Teaching Concerning the Aims and Functions of a Catholic University).

We have a special devotion to Mary who not only has been given to us by Jesus as our Mother when he said “Behold the Mother” (jn. 19:17) but also because as a community we bear Her name, Notre Dame. Cotemplating Mary’s mysterious sanctity, imitating her charity, and her faithful fulfillment of the Father’s will, we hope to help bring forth to a new and immortal life, persons who are conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of God (Lumen Gentium, 64). In her life we find an example of that love by which we should be animated in our apostolate (Lumen Gentium, 65). Thus, like Mary, we are to be hearers, bearers, and doers of the Word (Lk. 8, 21, 11:27-28).

History

The Congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) first came to the Philippines on September 25, 1939 , and immediately went about their work of evangelization in the then Empire Province of Cotabato and the islands of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, endeavoring to win friends among Christians and Muslims.
